Biographies
Soprano Alanna Mermelstein has been seen as Barbarina in Le nozze di Figaro, Madame Herz in Der Schauspieldirektor, Oberto in Alcina, the title role in Massenet’s Sapho, and Anita in Gypsy of the Year on Broadway. Alanna was a soloist at the Tuscia Operafestival in Rome and with the Columbia University Bach Society. Originally from New York, Alanna earned her BA from Columbia University and MD from New York Medical College, and is currently a resident in psychiatry at New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Laura Smith is thrilled to continue her musical journey with OCB tonight in the role of Erda. Other OCB performances this season: Fricka in “Das Rheingold” and “Die Walkure” and Baba the Turk in “The Rake’s Progress”. Other recent performances: originating the role of “Diana” in Thomas Z. Shepherd’s version of “Thespis” with Gilbert and Sullivan Light Opera company of Long Island; Azucena (cover) in “Il Trovatore” with MORE Opera; Katisha in “The Mikado” with with Gilbert and Sullivan Light Opera company of Long Island and Regina Opera. Ms. Smith lives in Patchogue, NY with her husband Charlie.
