Auditions

“How wonderful it was to get to learn and perform the role of Elvira in I Puritani in a quick week with OCB. With the excellent guidance of Jay Meetze I was able to sing through the role in public in a beautiful space with fantastic colleagues. OCB has quite a loyal following of people who understand that ART needs to be supported…that young artists need an audience to sing to…that beautiful art is created in a fun, casual and approachable environment at OCB!” -Marnie Breckenridge, Soprano (OCB Guest Artist)

Our Resident Artist Program (RAP), a training program for talented singers, pianists, coaches and conductors. RAP members receive the instruction, coaching and performance experience they need. Together, we bring affordable opera to unusual venues and new young audiences. Most roles for the season are cast directly from our RAP. Paid performance opportunities include a city-wide Education program. In addition, all accepted RAP artists receive a $200 yearly honorarium. Rehearsals are in the evenings and on weekends. Individual coachings are during the day and some evenings. THE STUDIO provides artists an opportunity to run-thru a variety of complete operas, on-book, with singers, pianist and conductor. Artists selected to participate are automatically considered for roles with OCB. Without the pressure of being under the microscope of an audience, THE STUDIO is held behind closed doors. Based on size of role, the participation fee ranges from $50 to $100.

GUEST ARTISTS are unpaid artists who perform with major companies. OCB has helped several by giving them their NYC debut, press and agents.

Opera Company of Brooklyn (OCB) announces auditions for a semi-staged performance of Massenet’s Werther at Union Theological Seminary’s James Chapel with the Barnard Columbia Chamber Choir (BCCC), providing some roles with compensation. OCB and BCCC will also perform Rossini’s Barber of Seville. Other repertoire being considered include Bizet’s Carmen, Raymond Luedeke’s sequel to Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, entitled Butterfly’s Trouble, and a concert featuring the works of Chevalier Saint George.

OCB will hold Season Auditions on July 29th and July 30th at Opera America’s new National Opera Center from 6PM to 10PM each night, as well as on additional dates as needed.

Audition/Application Process: Artists are selected based on technique, musicality, diction, acting, and overall artistry. A pianist will be provided free-of-charge.
