Artist Spotlight: Soprano Eunjin Jung

Eunjin Jung, Soprano

Soprano Eunjin Jung will make her Opera Company of Brooklyn debut as La Comtesse Adèle in Le Comte Ory on December 3, 2016. Eunjin, a native of Daegu, Korea, graduated from Mannes College with a Professional Study Diploma and Master’s degree. Recently, she sang Musetta in La Boheme, conducted by Mark Oswald. Previous roles include Giannetta in L’elisir d’amore and Novis in Suor Angelica with Mannes Opera, Suor Genovieffa in Suor Angelica in Chicago Summer Opera, and Lucy in The Telephone in Korea. She has additional performances as the lead in Lucia di Lammermoor, Nannetta in Falstaff, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Mathilde in Guillaume Tell, Fiordiligi in Cosi Fan Tutte, Woglinde in Gotterdammerung, and Violetta in La Traviata.


How did you get into Opera?

I got into opera naturally since I was exposed to the art a lot thanks to my home placed near an opera house in Korea.


What, in your opinion, makes OCB unique?

OCB’s approach to audiences with operas comfortably and also gives opportunities to a lot of great singers.


How do you relax when not on stage?

Usually, I sit back and relax at home with a movie or tv program. I also really enjoy walking in a park.


Do you have any advice for other conductors?

Although singing well is the most important thing, persistent challenges are more significant especially in New York.


What are your dream operas?

Pamina in Die Zauberflote, Adina in L’elisir damore, Juliette in Romeo et Juliette, and Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor

Nadine Sierra

What/who is your favorite opera and composer? Why?

Puccini’s La Boheme. I just love the music and composer. I watch this opera every year, and I am touched every time.


Which character (not in your voice range) would you most like sing and why?

Adina and Nanntetta because I tend to enjoy cheerful characters.


What other music do you listen to?

Classical piano music, Yeol eum Son in particular and some K-pop.


Do you read books/watch movies to prepare for a role?

Sure, I do.


How do you balance a career with a life offstage?

I always try to save my voice in any situation. Thus, after excessive rehearsals, I make a great effort to get plenty of rest.


How do you unwind after a performance?

Eat well and sleep well to recover my condition.
