How did you get into Opera?

I grew up in a musical family, and when I was 8 or 9 years old I started singing in the children’s chorus at the New York City Opera. I’ve loved opera ever since!
What, in your opinion, makes OCB unique?

The breadth of repertoire and abundance of opportunities for young singers make OCB a very unique company.

How do you relax when not on stage?

I enjoy running in the park and meditating. And watching lots of Netflix.
Do you have any advice for other singers?

I have found that when I take care of myself psychologically, I’m able to sing and perform my best.

What are your dream roles?

Zerbinetta and Lulu

Which colleagues do you admire?

I am inspired by all of my talented, hardworking colleagues!

What/who is your favorite opera and composer? Why?

Mozart is definitely my favorite composer. His operas have a sublime quality that I’m always drawn to.

Which character (not in your voice range) would you most like sing and why?

Carmen has always secretly been my dream role. Every time I see the opera I am captivated by her fearlessness and vitality, and I love how those qualities are expressed in the music.

What other music do you listen to?

Lately I’ve been going to see a lot of jazz and electronic music!

Do you read books/watch movies to prepare for a role?

I do. Any time there is source material or relevant outside material I find it very helpful in understanding a character and/or time period. I think it’s important to do as much research as possible, and then to decide what information is useful to you while making character choices. You never know what you’ll find that might nuance your interpretation or give you more ideas to choose from!

How do you balance a career with a life offstage?

I’m lucky to have supportive and understanding friends and family who make it much easier.

How do you unwind after singing?

I like to unwind with my colleagues after performances and celebrate with good food.

The dreaded question: Have you ever appeared in Phantom of the Opera?

I’m embarrassed to say that I haven’t even seen Phantom!
